• 4X44F

EN 388 is a European regulation governing the sale of garments used for safety and protection. It determines a fabric’s performance when used for protection against mechanical machinery by measuring abrasion, cut, tear and puncture resistance.

The EN 388 cut resistance test uses a single sharp implement to repeatedly pressure a garment in order to determine the amount of force required to cause visible and functional damage.

Level F Cut Resistance

Level F is the maximum rating awarded under EN 388. The test involved involves lowering a sharp implement onto a piece of fabric until a certain level of damage is done. Level F dictates that a sharp implement would have to generate in excess of an incredible 30 newtons of pressure to cause damage.

So What Does this Mean for You?

In the real world, this rating is the difference between a blade, knife, machine part or serrated edge cutting straight through a piece of fabric to cause life-threatening injury and it either being deflected or lodged in between tightly woven cut-resistant fibres. Don’t take the chance.
